Because of a bunch of people doing bunch of work with the breed for the last bunch of years in performance and show venues across the US and abroad, and an actual application sent in that I worked on, the Silken Windhound was accepted as a fully recognized breed into the UKC. The reaction was horror and fury from crazy people who are fans of planting their flags and drawing lines in the sand on microscopically insignificant issues, but, shockingly, the world kept right along spinning on it's axis despite the sudden microscopic shift in the US "pure bred dog" rosters.

I'm thrilled
The United Kennel Club made the leap and accepted this uniquely American breed of dog. To those of you who ask, why bother creating a new breed of dog when there are so many out there, I ask you, what would the world have been like if the only ice cream flavors were vanilla and chocolate? We wouldn't have had Cherry Garcia or Peanut Butter World. <G>
